abscess | a swollen area within body tissue, containing an accumulation of pus. |
alopecia | the partial or complete absence of hair from areas of the body where it normally grows; baldness. |
bedsores | a sore developed by an invalid because of pressure caused by lying in bed in one position. |
carbuncles | a severe abscess or multiple boil in the skin, typically infected with staphylococcus bacteria. |
cellulitis | inflammation of subcutaneous connective tissue. |
cutane | the organ system that encloses the body and includes skin, hair, nails, and related muscle and glands. |
decubitus ulcers | technical term for bedsore. |
dermatitis | a condition of the skin in which it becomes red, swollen, and sore, sometimes with small blisters |
dermis | the thick layer of living tissue below the epidermis that forms the true skin, containing blood capillaries |
epidermis | the outer layer of cells covering an organism, in particular. |
hair | any of the fine threadlike strands growing from the skin of humans, mammals, and some other animals. |
hirsutism | abnormal growth of hair on a person's face and body, especially on a woman. |
hives | another term for urticaria. |
integumentary | system is the organ system that protects the body from various kinds of damage, such as loss of water or abrasion from outside |
melanocytes | a mature melanin-forming cell, typically in the skin. |
melanoma | a tumor of melanin-forming cells, typically a malignant tumor associated with skin cancer. |
nails | a small metal spike with a broadened flat head, driven typically into wood with a hammer to join things together or to serve as a peg or hook. |
pressure sores | are an injury to the skin and underlying tissue. They can range from mild reddening of the skin. |
pressure ulcers | bedsores and decubitus ulcers, are localized damage to the skin and/or underlying tissue that usually occur over a bony prominence . |
sebaceous glands | a small gland in the skin which secretes a lubricating oily matter (sebum) into the hair follicles to lubricate the skin and hair. |
subcutaneous | situated or applied under the skin. |
ulcers | an open sore on an external or internal surface of the body, caused by a break in the skin or mucous membrane that fails to heal. |
urticaria | a rash of round, red welts on the skin that itch intensely, sometimes with dangerous swelling, caused by an allergic reaction, typically to specific foods |
