Term | Definition |
Chain of Infection | Six factors must be present for the spread of infection. |
Infectious Agent | Any disease causing microorganism(Pathogen). |
Reservoir | Where the pathogen lives. Examples are insects ,animals , and food. |
Portal of Exit | Route escape of the pathogen from the reservoir. Examples are respiratory secretions, blood exposure, and breaks in the skin. |
Mode of Transmission | Method by which the pathogen gets from the reservoir to the new host. |
Portal of Entry | Route through which the pathogen enters its new host. |
Susceptible Host | Accepts pathogen. |
Carrier | Someone who is healthy on the inside but has diseases on the inside and they can spread those diseases. |
Medical Asepsis | A cleaning technique. Reduces the number of pathogens. |
Surgical Asepsis | A sterile technique. |
HAI | A infection that exists in a certain location. Cause by viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens. |
Host | Where the pathogen lives. |
Contagious | Someone who has a disease and it can spread to someone else. |
Epidemiology | Branch of medicine that deals with the incidence, distribution, and possible control of diseases. |
Quarantine | To separate and restrict the movement of people. |
