| Term | Definition |
| Nervous system | The network of nerve cells and fibers that transmit nerve impulses between parts of the body. |
| Central nervous system | The complex of nerve tissues that controls the activities of the body. In vertebrates it comprises the brain and spinal cord. |
| Peripheral nervous system | Is part of the nervous system that consists of the nerve and ganglia on the outside of the brain. |
| Neuron | The functional cell of the nervous system. It can send and refugee nerve impulses. |
| Glial cells | Surround neurons and provide support for and insulation between them. |
| Neurotransmitter | The brain chemicals that communicate information throughout our brain and the body, |
| Endocrine gland | Glands that are located throughout various parts of the human body. These glands take on the critical task of releasing hormones, and as a whole, they are most commonly referred to as the endocrine system. |
| Microvilli | Each of a large number of minute projections from the surface of some cells. |
| Carbohydrates | The sugars, starches, and fibers found in fruits, vegetables, and milk products. |
