periosteum | - dense irregular connective tissue with a cellular inner layer - continuous tendons and ligaments - surrounds the entire bone - blood vessels and nerve fibers |
epiphyses | enlarged end of long bones (contains spongy bones) |

diaphysis | - (shaft) - compact bone - harder and outer layer |
