| Contaminate | To introduce viruses, bacterium or parasites which could cause infection or adulterated specimens and false test relsults, |
| Hemoconcentration | An increase in concentration of red blood corpuscles, caused by a decrease in the volume plasma. Can alter lab results. |
| Hemolysis | The disintegration of red blood corpuscles and the dissemination of hemoglobin in the surrounding fluid; fluid turns pink to red because hemoglobin is released from the cells |
| Nonvenous Reaction | A blood reaction to injury which happens outside the vein. |
| Venous Reaction | An event that directly affects the vein itself. |
| Wicking | In phlebotomy, the flow of blood which occurs when a dry filter paper touches a wet drop of blood. |
