EARLY STAGES OF ALZHEIMERS | Changes occur very gradually and may not be noticeable to others. When symptoms do become noticeable they are misinterpreted with old age. Examples such as: How many grand children do you have? ANSWER- Oh, I have many grandchildren.Patient doesn't answer? |
MIDDLE STAGES OF AZHEIMERS | Persons perceptions and understandings of the world change significally. Patients personality may change and patient requires a lot of attention for safety purposes. |
LATE STAGE OF ALZHEIMERS | Patient becomes physically dependent on others for all aspects of care. The person is at high risk for pressure ulcers and infections. Language skills are lost and patient becomes mute. |
DELIRIUM | Change in cognition that has a rapid onset and is related to chemical changes in the body. |
AMNESIA | Without memory- |
APHASIA | Without speech |
AGNOSIA | Without knowing- Inability to use the five senses to recognize people or things. EXAMPLE- Person can hold a key in her hand but would not be able to identify it just by feel or touch. |
APRAXIA | Without doing- |
EXPRESSIVE APHASIA | Inability to use language to express oneself, verbally or in writing. |
RECEPTIVE APHASIA | Inability to understand communication(spoken and written)from others. EXAMPLE- In a foreign country and people don't understand you. |
