Superficial (external) | Toward or at the body surface (skin is superifical to the skeletal muscles |
Deep (internal) | Away from the body surface (lungs are deep to the skin) |
Ipsilateral | On the same side (right hand and right foot) |
Contralateral | On opposite sides (right hand and left foot) |
Coronal (frontal) plane | Lies vertically and divides body into anterior and posterior parts |
Median (midsagittal) plane | Specific sagittal plane that lies vertically in the midline (dividing the left and right into equal halves) |
Parasagittal plane | Sagittal plane that lies vertically but does NOT go through the midline (meaning it cuts the body into two UNEQUAL halves) |
Transverse plane | Horizontally divides body into superior and inferior parts |
