Nephrosclerosis | Hardening/narrowing of the blood vessels/arteries in the kidney. |
what causes Nephrosclerosis? | HTN, decreases in oxygen supply leading to abnormal filtration, causes increase in BUN and Creatinine. leads to Chronic Kidney Failure. |
Acute Renal Failure | Sudden; some causes are from medications, especially ibuprofen, or from blood clots. |
Glomerulonephritis | Inflammation or infection of the nephrons. urine contains proteins, blood. if it is from inflammation can TX by anti-inflammatory drugs. |
Nephrolithiasis | Kidney Stones. can form in the collecting duct, pelvis, ureter, bladder, urethra, severe pain renal colic, ureteral colic |
Treatment for Nephrolithiasis? | Force fluids, Lithotripsy, ultrasound or laser, stent to maintain patency. can be familial, recurrent. |
Hydronephrosis | Back up of urine into the kidney, obstruction. |
Pylonephritis | comes from bladder infection that is not treated. Infection of nephrons and renal pelvis. secondary to untreated bladder infection. |
Ureteral Colic | severe intense pain associated with passing a kidney stone. |
Renal Colic | Flank Pain |
Lithotripsy | Ultrasound waves breakup the kidney stones allowing them to be passed. |
