Exudate | A material such as fluid and cells, that has escaped from blood vessels during the inflammatory process. |
Serous exudate | Consists chiefly of serum, which is the clear portion of the blood. Its clear and watery. A example is the fluid in a blister from a burn. |
Sanguineous exudate | Its red and consists of RBC. Results when capillaries are damaged, allowing the escape of RBC, and is frequently seen in open wounds. |
Purulent exudate | Contains pus, which consists of leukocytes, dead liquefied tissue debris, and dead living bacteria it is usually thick and has an unpleasant odor. |
Suppuration | the process of pus formation. |
Serosanguineous exudate | consists of clear and blood-tinged drainage and is commonly seen in surgical incisions. |
Purosanguineous exudate | consists of pus and blood and is often seen in a new wound that is infected |
