March of 1917   -snow and ice prevented farmers from bringing crops to markets. -poor bought bread which led to less bread for the poor -riots led to revolution -soldiers turned against tsar

Bolsheviks   -most successful political group -lead by lawyer Lenin

Lenin   -lawyer -demanded workers control government -leader of Bolsheviks -studied Karl Marx -demanded 2nd revolution

Bolshevik Revolution   -unable to win in elections so the seized government by force -overthrew Duma in November 1917 -millions died

Opposition to Revolution   -many opposed Bolshevik rule -many's wealth disappeared -religious groups opposed because Bolsheviks closed churches -war broke out between Bolsheviks and enemies
