Pericardium   A double walled membrane sac that encloses the heart.

Pericardial Fluid   Found in the pericardium and prevents friction when the heart beats.

Epicardium   Outside layer of the heart, the inner layer of the pericardial sac.

Myocardium   Middle and thickest layer of the heart, consists of cardiac muscle.

Endocardium   Lining of the heart, forms the inner surface, very smooth.

Atria   Two upper chambers of the heart, recieves blood from all parts of the body.

Ventricle   Two lower parts of the heart. Vessels leaving the heart emerge from them, walls are thicker than atrial walls.

Apex   Tip of the heart.

Superior vena cava   v/ein that carries deoxygenated blood from the upper half of the body to the heart's right atrium.
