Definition
Hemoconcentration   A condition in which the concentration of blood cells is increased in proportion to the plasma.

Hemolysis   The destruction or dissolution of red blood cells, with subsequent release of hemoglobin.

Plasma   The liquid portion of whole blood that contains active clotting agents.  
🗑
Serum   The liquid portion of whole blood that remains after the blood has clotted.

Thixotropic Gel   A material that appears to be solid until subjected to a disturbance, such as centrifugation, whereupon it becomes a liquid

Double-Pointed Safety Needle   A blood drawing needle used with an evacuated tube system to allow the user to collect more than one tube of blood without contaminating the tube or holder.

Evacuated Stopper Tubes   A plastic or glass sealed vacuum tube used to collect a blood specimen obtained through venipuncture.

Sharps Container   A hard plastic container that is used to safely dispose of hypodermic needles and other sharp medical instruments, such as an IV catheters and disposable scalpels.

Syringes   A tube with a nozzle and piston or bulb for sucking in and ejecting liquid in a thin stream, used for cleaning wounds or body cavities, or fitted with a hollow needle for injecting or withdrawing fluids.

Winged Infusion Sets (Butterfly Needles)   "Scalp vein" set—is a device specialized for venipuncture: i.e. for accessing a superficial vein for either intravenous injection or phlebotomy.
