Definition
Glomerulus   A tight ball of capillaries that contains all of the "dirty" blood to be filtered.

Glomerular capsule/Bowman's capsule   The end of the renal tubules that forms a cup shaped structure that surrounds the glomerulus.

Proximal convoluted tubule (PCT)   The first part of the renal tubule that is composed of cuboidal epithelia cells for reabsorption. The cells found in the PCT are ciliated to increase absorption.

Loop of Henle   The U-shaped loop of the renal tubule. Composed of a descending and ascending portion.

Distal convoluted tubule (DCT)   The far end of the renal tubules that is formed of cuboidal epithelial cells. These contain a high number of mitochondria to aid in the active transport of molecules from the blood to the renal tubules.

Collecting Ducts   The final part of the nephron that carries the processed waste to renal pelvis of the kidney.
