Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.
        Help!

Question
Answer
What is the function of the limbic system?   cognitive and visceral responses to emotion and processes involved with memory
🗑
Where are limbic system structures located?   around the corpus collosum on medial surface of the cerebral hemispheres
🗑
What makes up the limbic system?   cingulate gyrus, hippocampus, parahippocampal gyrus, amygdala (uncus) hypothalamus, and anterior/medial thalamic nuclei
🗑
What is the purpose of the papez circuit?   circuit that permits a cognitive and visceral response to emotions
🗑
What are the 6 steps to the papez circuit   cingulate gyrus recieves inpout from neocortex and thalamus. 2/3) cingualte projects to hippocampus and amygdala 4)projections form parahippocampal gyrus and uncus thru fornix to mamillary bodies 5)mamilary bodies project to m/a thalmic nuclei 6)neocortex
🗑
What are the layers of the hippocampus?   stratum radiatum, stratum pyrammidale and strata oriens
🗑
What is in stratum radiatum?   dendrites
🗑
What is in stratum pyrammdiale?   soma
🗑
Waht is in strata oriens?   proximal axons
🗑
What is the functino of the hippocampus?   processing and storing of explicit memory for long-term storage
🗑
What are the 2 different types of memory?   explicit and implicit
🗑
What memory is stored in the hippocampus?   spatial memory
🗑
What is explicit memory   knowledge of people, places and things along with the meaning of those facts. Spacial memory included
🗑
What is implicit membory   knowledge of how to perform a motor or perceptual skill
🗑
What does damage to the hippocampus result in?   inability to form new long term explicit memories. Short term memory intact
🗑
What is LTP?   Long-term potentiation. Synapses are enhanced to addition of AMPA receptors to post-synaptic membrane.
🗑
What is LTD?   Long Term Depression. Synapses are reduced in effeciency due to removal of AMPA receptors from the post synaptic membrane. occurs after a bout of low frequency action potentials in teh presynaptic neuron
🗑

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
