U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (USDHHS)   Parent organization of the United States government that deals with US health problems. Has 11 divisions that oversee many programs focused on improving the health of Americans  
National Institutes of Health (NIH)   The world's leading agency for conducting and supporting medical research and provides information toward improving public health through 27 different agencies.  
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)   Located in Atlanta, GA. Monitors and prevents disease outbreaks, including bioterroism.  
Food and Drug Administration (FDA)   Assures the safety of foods, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals,biological products, and medical devices  
Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ)   Works to improve the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness for all Americans through technology and research.  
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)   Oversees the safety, and prevents injury, illness, and death in the workplace  
Health Departments   Provide services to local communities. Reports communicable diseases, provides health education, environmental sanitation  
Voluntary or Not-For-Profit (Non-Profit) Agencies   Focus on one disease condition or a related group of disorders. Supported by: Donations, Fees, Fundraisers, and Grants Participate in research, patient services, and public awareness
