Talk about the Silk Road under the Yuan Dynasty (Mongol Dynasty in China) and who traveled on it.   Reopened Silk Road: trade route linking Europe & Asia. Encouraged trade & foreign visitors. Marco Polo, Italian merchant, visited China and served in Mongol government. Wrote book about journey when he got back to Europe creating interest in China.

Talk about trading on the Silk Road during the Yuan Dynasty (Mongol Dynasty in China).   Trade was made peaceful by Mongols, very few robbers and bandits. Gunpowder, paper, magnetic compass, silk flowed to Europe from China along the Silk Road during the Yuan Dynasty. Christianity spread from Europe to the China along the Silk Road.

What is the Mughal Dynasty and where was it located?   Mughal is the Persian word for Mongol and was a dynasty founded by the Mongols in India in 1526.

How did goods come into and out of the Mughal Empire? What goods passed through the Empire?   Ideas and trade came into the Empire by the Khyber pass though the Hindu-Kush mountains. Horses, silk, porcelain, spices came though the Khyber pass into India. Indian spices and cotton cloth were sent to Central Asia and Iran.

Talk about the Taj Mahal.   Built by the leader Shah Jahan in 1600’s as tomb for his dead wife. One of the 7 Wonders of the World. Took 22 years to build at estimated cost of $500 million. Built out of white marble & 28 types of precious stones were used.

Why did Shah Jahan spend so much money to build the Taj Mahal?   Shah Jahan spent so much money on the Taj Mahal because he loved his wife a lot.

Talk about how the Ottoman Empire began.   After the Mongols destroyed Baghdad in 1258 the Seljuk Turk Empire collapsed. Many different Turks came into the area. Osman was the leader of one tribe & he began to untied many tribes together to create a large empire known as the Ottoman Empire.

Why were Ottman armies so strong?   Ottoman armies were strong because they utilized gunpowder in cannons and eventually guns.

Suleyman was a leader of the Ottomans in the 1500's. Talk about his laws.   He created a code of laws that had... penalties for criminal acts and corruption by government officials. You could not be put in prison without a trial. Suleyman also introduced a balance budget for the government.

Talk about the building Suleyman had made.   Had an architect build the Mosque of Suleyman. It included many domes. It had 4 schools, a library, a bath, and a hospital.

How were the Ottmans in a great place to grow wealthy from trading?   Were middle men & controlled land trade routes & the flow of goods from eastern Asia into Europe.
