Radiologic Angiography Procedure in which contrast dye is injected into a blood vessel to outline it on an x-ray; the resulting image is an angiogram. •When done in an artery, the procedure is arteriography and the image is an arteriogram.•When done in a vein, the procedure is venography and the image is a venogram.
Radiologic Echocardiography Procedure in which ultra high-frequency sound waves are bounced off the heart to create an image called an echocardiogram.
Radiologic Doppler ultrasonography Procedure that uses Doppler technology and ultra high-frequency sound waves to create an image of blood flow in an artery or vein
Nuclear Medicine Multiple-gated acquisition (MUGA) scan Procedure that takes images of the heart chambers and calculates the ejection fraction. •Patient is injected with a radioactive tracer that binds to red blood cells.•A camera records gamma rays from the tracer and coordinates the image with the patient’s ECG.
Nuclear Medicine Myocardial perfusion scan Procedure that combines a cardiac exercise stress test with injection of a radioactive tracer. •Tracer collects in parts of the heart with the best blood flow.•Areas of decreased or absent tracer uptake indicate poor perfusion or dead tissue
