What is politics and what is political science concerned with? Politics is who gets what, when, and how. Definition came from Harold Lasswell. Political Science is the study of this.
What is government? Why does it have legitimacy? Government is the structures and processes by which binding decisions are made for society. It has legitimacy because it is based on the consent of the people, who participate in the selection of their leaders and the making of laws.
What are the powers of govt? 1. Protect from outside invasion 2. maintain internal order 3. promote general welfare 4. possesses a monopoly on legitimate use of force
