Vocab related to the government
| Term | Definition |

| Government | A group of people who are elected to make laws and govern (run) a community, state, or country. |
| Democracy | A type of government this is run by the people; a democracy allows its citizens to have a say in how the government is run. |
| Legislative Branch | Makes our laws; also known as Congress. |
| Bicameral | Our Congress is this because it has two parts: (1) Senate and (2) House of Representatives. |
| Executive Branch | Enforces our laws and is the commander in chief of our military |
| Judicial Branch | Interprets the laws to make sure they are fair. |
| Census | An official count of the population taken every ten (10) years; it is required by the Constitution. |
| Supreme Court (SCOTUS) | The head of the Judicial Branch of our government; it is the highest one in the land |
| Bill | A proposed law. |
| Veto | To reject. |
| Constitution | The supreme law of the land. |
| Amendments | Official change to the Constitution; there are 27 of these. |
| Rights | Something that cannot be taken away. |
