Political Parties

political party a group of people who seek control gov. through winning elections and holding public office
partisanship the strong support of their party and its policy stands
bipartisan two major parties find common ground
Major parties Republican and Democratic parties
Nominate Candidates Recruit, choose, and present candidates for public office.
Act as a Watchdog Parties that are out of power keep a close eye on the actions of the party in power.
Inform and Activate Supporters Campaign, define issues, and criticize other candidates
Minor parties lacking wide political support, have never made a successful showing, so people are reluctant to support them.
The National Convention the parties national voice and the purpose is to choose the VP and President candidates for that party
The National Committee a group of people in democratic and republican parties
The National Chairperson the leaders of the democratic and republican party
The Congressional Campaign Committees each party has a committees which works to elected congressman
State Central Committee and Chairperson each state has there own
Ward a part of a city
Precinct the smallest district
people who vote for the Democrats African Americans, Jews, Catholics and union members
people who vote for the Republicans white males, Protestants, and the business community
