What are pinealocytes? Secretory cells of pineal gland.
What is "brain-sand" or "pineal sand"? Deposits of calcium salts in pineal gland easily seen in X-rays.
Major hormone secreted by pineal gland. Melatonin - peak levels at night & least at noon.
Pineal gland indirectly receives input from __. Visual pathways - concerning intensity & duration of daylight.
What is referred to as our "biological clock"? Suprachiasmatic nucleus of hypothalamus - richly supplied with melatonin receptors.
How does the thymus change over a lifetime? Large in infants & reduces throughout life till composed of adipose & CT in old age.
Name the hormonal product of thymic cells. Thymopoietins, thymic factor, & thymosins - essential for immune system.
