augment - Using fertilizer is likely to augment the crops one grows in their garden. make larger; increase
opportunist - The tunist saw an opportunity to take over the lead role when the actor fainted. someone who takes advantage of the situation.
ominous - The dark sky and strong winds were an ominous sign of bad weather. sign of something bad about to happen
averse - The male student was averse to listening to poetry. feel repelled; wanting to avoid
ambivalence - Val changed her mind many times about what to wear to the dance. indecision; feeling pulled in two directions
perfunctory - The inspectors at the perfume factory completed a perfunctory inspection. without enthusiasm or thoroughness
erratic - Putting ears on a house is erratic behavior. unpredictable; differ from the norm.
loquacious - Two loquacious women spent hours talking about a pair of shoes. talkative
loathe - Ms. Mason truly does loathe lime beans, even if some call them butter beans. to hate; despise
peruse - Our teacher spent all class period perusing a map of Peru. read carefully; study in detail
austere - Old Blue, our steer, lives in an austere barn eating regular grass. without luxuries; ordinary
obstinate - Hobbs was obstinate and did not believe the score was 10 to 8. stubborn, refusing to be persuaded
eclectic - The lady has eclectice taste in electric companies; she use six companies. choosing from many sources
platitude - The dentist tried to be funny with stupid platitudes while plating my tooth. boring, dull remarks; trite statements
arbitrary - Looking into a jar of hundreds of bees, I arbitrarily selected one. random; without reason
evasive - Eva is evasive because she will not give out the number to her hive. avoid giving direct answers.
