How did the Framers redefine the term Federal for the Constitution? They defined Federal to mean a mixed system in which sovereignty is divided between state and national governments. Originally, Federal referred to a confederation of sovereign states.
Which amendment reinforces the federal nature of the Constitution? Tenth Amendment
How was the Constitution ratified? By ratifying conventions in each state.
What is the initiative process? The initiative process is the means by which citizens in some states are able to propose, for approval by the voters, laws or amendments to their state constitutions.
Explain the initiative process. Thomas Jefferson's position has been called strict constitution view of the Constitution. He argued that the national government should only do what was expressly stated in the constitution or what was absolutely necessary to carry out its delegated power
What did Montesquieu, as well as the Framers, believe was necessary for the preservation of liberty? The separation of powers.

How did James Madison believe that and extended republic would prevent tyranny? The various factions in an extended republic would be a check on each other.
