Interest Groups Organized body of individuals who seek to influence the outcome of government
Economic Interest Groups Organized body of individuals who have banded together to enhance their business opportunities or wealth.
Public Interest Groups Groups whose main stated goal is to benefit society as a whole Ex: Sierra Club or NRA
Single-Issue Interest Groups Groups who focus on one policy area Ex: MADD
Multi- ssue Interest Group Groups who focus attention on more than one policy area Ex: NAACP(Employment, housing, marriage...)
Functions of Interest Groups Representation, Participation, Education, Agenda Building, and Program Monitoring.
Lobbyist Any person who earns $2,000 or more per month to influence officials, or who earns less than $2,000 a month but will be contacting state officials 25 times or more in 2 consecutive months.
Political Action Committees Committee of an interest group that will raise funding, usually from members, and donate it to candidates running for office.
Lobbyig Reform An attempt tp reverse over influence of interest groups in California politics.
1949 Collier Act Requires Lobbyists to: Register File reports listing bills supporting or reposing File financial reports of contributions or expenditures over $10
1960 Prop 1A Creates Professional Legislature
1974 Prop 9 Creates Fair Political Practice Commission (FPPC)
