Mass The amount of matter in the sample
Matter Anything that occupies space and has mass
Volume How much room the sample takes up in space
Density A measure of the ratio of an object's mass to its volume
Pressure The force that a sample of gas in a closed container exerts on the container walls; a solid or liquid standing in an environment and the force that a gas is exerting on the walls of the environment and everything in it (including its surface)

Kinetic Energy The energy that an object possesses by virtue of the fact that it is moving; the faster the molecules move, the higher their kinetic energy

Calorimeter Measures energy
Heat The flow of energy from a body at a higher temperature to one at a lower temperature
Temperature Average kinetic energy
Heat Capacity Amount of heat a substance must absorb for its temperature to be raised 1 degree Celsius
Specific Heat THe heat capacity of 1 gram of a substance
q=mc(delta)T q=heat; m=mass; c=specific heat; (delta)T=difference between initial and final temperatures)
Temperature in Kelvin K= 273 + degrees Celsius
Energy Measurement 1 calorie = 4.186 joules
