| Contrast | exaggeration or diminish in current sensation when compared with previous sensations |

| After image | sensation remains even after stimuli is gone (phantom pain) |
| Receptors | detect changes (stimuli) & generate electrical nerve impulses |
| Sensory neurons | transmit impulses from receptors to CNS |
| Sensory tracts | white matter in spinal cord or brain that transmits impulse to specific part of brain |
| Sensory area | most are in cerebral cortex & interprets impulses |
