Organ SystemsOrgan Systems
Integumentary System Protects against pathogens, helps regulate body temperature. Components: Skin, Hair, nails, sweat and sebaceous glands.
Skeletal System Provides structure, supports and protects internal organs. Components:Bones, Cartilage, Ligaments
Muscular System Produces movement, maintains posture, and provides heat. Components:Muscles.
Cardiovascular System Transports nutrients and wastes to and from all body tissue. Components:Heart, blood vessels, blood.
Lymphatic System Cleans and returns tissue fluid to the blood and destroys pathogens that enter the body. components:Lymph, lymph vessels, lymphoid organs.
Nervous System Coordinates body activities, receives and transmits stimuli. Components:Brain, Spinal cord, nerves, sense receptors.
Endocrine System Regulates metabolic activities and body chemistry(Hormones). Components:Pituitary, adrenal, thyroid, other ductless glands.
Respiratory System Exchanges gases between blood and external environments. Components: Air passageways, lungs.
Digestive System Ingests and digests food, absorbs nutrients into blood. Components:Mouth, esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas.
Urinary System Eliminate waste, maintains water and chemical balance. Components:Kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra.
Reproductive System Forms new individuals to provide continuation of the human species. components: Testes, ovaries, accessory structures.
