Ciculatory System

Circulatory System Vocabulary

A fiborous sac lined with serous membrane that encloses the heart. Pericardium
A vessel that carries blood TOWARDS the heart. Vein
A vessel that carries blood AWAY from the heart. Artery
Microscopic vessel through which exchanges take place between the blood and the tissues. Capillary
Eliminates carbon dioxide from blood and replentishes oxegen. Pulmonary Circuit
Supplies the rest of the body with blood. Systemic Circuit
Dividing wall between heart chambers. Septum
One of the two upper chambers of the heart. Atrium
Disease due to the abnormality of arteries that supply blood and ocegen to the heart. Coronary Heart Disease
Hardening of the arteries due to the deposit of yellowish, fat like material in the lining of the vessels. Atherosclerosis
Condition of having a blood clot within the vessel. Thrombosis
Cavity or chamber; one of the two lower chambers of the heart. Ventricle
Maintains the undirectional flow of the blood in the heart by opening and closing depending on the difference of pressure on ither sides. Heart Valve
Carry freshly oxegenated blood to the heart muscule, can be seen on exterior side of the heart. Coronary Arteries
The widening of chambers of the heart between two attractions when the chambers fill with blood. Diastole
The sequence of contraction and relaxation that makes up the heart beat. Cardiac Cycle
Total amount of blood being pumped by the heart over a particular period of time. Cardiac Output
Impulse generating (Pacemaker) tissue located on the right atrium of the heart. Sinoatrial (SA) Node
