Body Planes and Sections

QuestionAnswer
Sagittal Plane a vertical plane that divides the body into right and left parts
Median aka Midsagittal Plane a sagittal plane that lies exactly in the midline
Parasagittal Plane all other sagittal planes, offset from the midline
Frontal aka Coronal Plane vertical plane, divide the body into anterior and posterior parts
Transverse aka Horizontal Plane aka Cross Section runs horizontally from right to left, dividing the body into superior and inferior parts
Oblique Section cuts made diagonally between the horizontal and vertical planes
