Joint Classification

Functional classification of joints and their structural classifications

QuestionAnswer
Synarthroses Immovable joints; joint made of fibrous tissue (no joint cavity) ex: skull sutures, teeth in alveolar sockets.
Amphiarthroses Slightly movable joints; joint is cartilaginous (no joint cavity) ex: epiphyseal plate, ribs to sternum, intervertebral joints, pubic symphysis.
Diarthroses Freely movable; joint is Synovial (has cavity)
