Anatomy - The Lungs

| Pharynx | Consists of the nasopharynx, oropharynx, and laryngopharynx |
| Trachea | 10-13 cm tube connecting the larynx to the bronchi, this is the main airway to the lungs |
| Alveoli | Many tiny air sacs in the lungs which allow for gas exchange |
| Bronchioles | Branches of the bronchi |
| Bronchi | A.k.a. "Bronchus," the major airway of the lungs |
| Diaphragm | Dome-shaped muscle that contracts during resoirations |
| Capillaries | Small branches of blood vessels |
| Hemoglobin | Iron-rich protein in the erythrocytes that transports oxygen and carbon dioxide to and from the lungs |
| Bicarbonate | Aids in CO2 transport, regulated by the lungs |
| Larynx | Air passage that holds the vocal cords and voice box |
