Respiratory System

TermDefinition
Oxygen Supplies all cells in the body from the atmosphere.
Cellular Respiration Uses oxygen to generate energy that allows us to move and think.
Supply body with oxygen. Major function of the respiratory system.
Exhaling Removes Co2 from the body.
Arteries Carry blood AWAY from heart.
Veins Carries blood INTO the heart.
Pharynx Connects nasal cavity and mouth to larynx
Esophagus Food goes down this tube.
Larynx Provides an airway and is also called the voice box.
Epiglottis Flap that closes when swallowing food located above the larynx.
Lungs Spongy sac organs used for breathing located in the chest cavity.
Alveolus Protruding structures at the end of the bronchioles.
