11.1 Notes
Notes about lesson 11.1 in anatomy about the cardiovascular system.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Where is the heart? | In the thoracic cavity underneath the sternum, and sits above the diaphragm and between the lungs |
| What is the apex of the heart? | The point of the heart |
| Why are men safer against heart attacks? | Because their hearts have more tissue because they are generally bigger so they can afford to lose a little tissue. |
| Where does the apex point? | Left towards the hip |
| How much does a man's heart weigh? | 10 - 12 ounces |
| How much does a woman's heart weigh? | 8 - 10 ounces |
| What is higher? Atriums, or ventricles? | Atriums |
| Do arteries take blood away from the heart or to the heart? Are the typically oxygenated or deoxygenated? | Away from the heart, and are typically oxygenated |
| Do vein take blood away from the heart or to the heart? Are the typically oxygenated or deoxygenated? | To the heart and are typically deoxygenated |
| Is the pulmonary artery deoxygenated or oxygenated, and why? | Deoxygenated because it's sending blood to the lungs to become oxygenated to then send to the heart for another pump |
| Is the pulmonary vein deoxygenated or oxygenated, and why? | Oxygenated because it's sending oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart to be pumped back out. |
| Which side of the heart connects to the pulmonary artery? | The right side |
| Which side of the heart connects to the pulmonary vein? | The left side |
| Where in the heart does deoxygenated blood enter? | The right atrium |
| Where in the heart does oxygenated blood enter? | The left atrium |
| What is the tissue wall that separates the left and right sides of the heart? | The septum |
| Where are atrioventricular or AV valves? | Between atria and ventricles |
| Where are semilunar valve? | Between veins and arteries |
| What is the outermost layer of the heart? | Epicardium |
| What is the middle layer of the heart? | Myocardium |
| What is the inner layer of the heart that is next to the blood? | Endocardium |
| Which side of the body are tricuspid AV valves on? | The right side |
| Which side of the body are bicuspid AV valves on? | The left side |
| What are the 2 types of semilunar valves? | Pulmonary and aortic |
| What is diastole? | When ventricles relax and atria contract |
| What is systole? | When the ventricles contract and the atria relax |
| How is blood pressure red? | The first number means the pressure on arterial walls which is the work the heart has. The second number means the pressure on walls when the heart rests. |
| What is a healthy blood pressure? | About a 110/70. Give or take some is ok, but major differences need help. |
| What number on blood pressure should not change? | The second number |
| What does a low second number on blood pressure mean? | Low blood pressure |
| What does a high first number on blood pressure mean? | High blood pressure |
