The chapter 3 study guide questions for Civics.

What are the first 3 articles of the Consitution and what do they do? Article I whivh outlines Congress in the Legislative Branch, Article II which outlines the president in the Execuitive Branch, and Article III which outlines the Supreme Court in the Judicial Branch.
What is the Preamble? The opening mission statement of the Consitution of creating a perfect union and enforce peace and justice starting with the phrase "We The People".
What is Checks and Balances? The overlapping power each branch of the government has to limit each other preventing one from becoming too powerful.
What checks and balance power does the Legislative Branch hold? The ability to overwrite a president's veto of a law if they have at least a 2 thirds vote and impeaching officials.
What checks and balance power does the Executive Branch hold? The ability to veto laws by Congress and apointing federal judges.
What checks and balance power does the Judicial Branch hold? The ability to deem laws or executive actions as unconsitutiuonal.
How many Amendments are there? 27
What is the ratification process for Amendments? The Amendment must be proposed by both 2 thirds of the Senate and Congress, and will be approved if at least 38 states out of 50 approve.
What is federalism? The sharing of power between a central government and local governments.
What is Necessary and Proper Clause? The ability for Congress to pass all necessary and proper laws.
What's the difference between interstate and intrastate commerce? Interstate commerce is moving goods or services across state or international borders. Intrastate commerce is moving goods or services within just 1 state.
What is Amendment 13? The amendment that abolished slavery except under criminal matters.
What is Amendment 19? The amendment that allows any gender to vote in any state.
What is Amendment 21? The amendment that repealed the 18th amendment which previously made alcohol illegal. It allowed states to manage alcohol on their own terms again.
What is Amendment 24? The amendment that banned states or Congress from denying someone from voting based on their payment of a poll tax. It's goal was to allow people, regardless of income, to vote.
What is Amendment 25? The amendment that outlined how the vice-president would take care of the country such as being given the presidental role if the president was out for any reason, along with being temporaily given the duty if the president was just temporaily out.
What is Amendment 26? The amendment that lowered the voting age from 21 to 18 in all types of elections.
What is Amendment 27? The amendment that prohibits Congres from raising the pay of 4 Congressional Members until they get replaced with 4 others.
What is Affrimative Action? Proactive polcies intented to support previously marginalised groups allowing them to catch up in fields like work and education.
