c1 mistakes

TermDefinition
"I'm not used to get up so early." "...to getting up..." (Rule: 'Used to' as a preposition requires -ing).
"I need to assist to the meeting tomorrow." "...to attend the meeting." (Rule: Assist means to help; Attend means to go).
"Not only he is late, but he's also rude." "Not only is he late..." (Rule: Negative adverbials at start require inversion).
"The documentary made a deep impact on me." "...a profound impact." (C1 Tip: 'Deep' is okay, but 'Profound' is the C1 collocation).
"If I would have known, I'd have told you." "If I had known..." (Rule: No 'would' in the If-clause of 3rd conditional).
"I'm very constipated; I need a tissue." "I have a cold / I'm congested." (Rule: Constipated refers to your bowels!).
"It depends of the weather." "It depends on..." (Rule: One of the most common fossilized errors).
Transform: "I hate his arrogance." (Start with What...) "What I hate is his arrogance." (Rule: Focus structure for emphasis).
"I suggest you to buy a new car." "I suggest (that) you buy / should buy." (Rule: Suggest + clause/ing, NO 'to').
"The movie was absolutely interesting." "...very interesting" or "absolutely fascinating." (Rule: Grading adjs).
"It is said that he is very rich." (Make it more C1) "He is said to be very rich." (Rule: Passive reporting verbs).
What does "to beat around the bush" mean? To avoid talking about what is important. (Synonym: To prevaricate).
"The economic situation is better now." Correct! (Wait, it's a trap! Economic = economy; Economical = cheap/saving).
"It's essential that she arrives on time." "...that she arrive." (Rule: Formal subjunctive uses base form).
"He is so rich that he can buy a jet." (Use SUCH) "He is such a rich man that..." (Rule: Such + adjective + noun).
