Which article of the Constitution defines the executive branch? Article 2.
What does the Executive Branch do? Execute and enforce laws.
What are the qualifications for President? Must be at least 35 y/o, natural born U.S. citizen, and must have lived in the U.S. for the past 14 years.
What is the length of term for the Presidency? 4 years.
When are presidential elections held? Election Day is the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.
How many terms may a president hold office? 2 terms.
Which amendment limits the president's terms? The 22nd Ammendment.
If a president dies, is removed from office, or resigns, who takes over the presidency? The Vice President.
Who can bring charges of impeachment against the president? Congress.
Who is considered the "father of the constitution"? James Madison.
Which two presidents were impeached? Presidents Richard Nixon and Andrew Johnson.
Were Richard Nixon or Andrew Johnson found guilty of impeachment? No.
How do Congress and the President work together? Congress drafts and passes bills, but the President must sign or veto them, and Congress can vote to override the veto.
What is a veto? What can Congress do to overturn the veto? The veto is the president's power to say "no" to any bill that comes to him. If both the Senate and the House of Representatives vote to overturn the veto with a 2/3 majority vote in each, the veto is overturned.
What are executive orders? Direct orders to people on what to do.
What is a pardon? The president can grant amnesty and forgiveness to anyone who has been convicted of a crime via a pardon.
What is a reprieve? A reprieve is a short period of freedom from punishment granted before an inevitable, terrible event happens like a death sentence in order for more evidence to be found or presented.
Who commands the armed forces? What is his title as commander? The president,; Commander in Chief.
Who can declare war? Congress.
Name two other executive duties. Chief of Party, Chief of State
What is the "State of the Union" address? The "State of the Union" address is a speech from the President to Congress about the state of the U.S.
How does the Executive Branch check the Legislative Branch? Vetos.
How does the Executive Branch check the Judicial Branch? Appointing judges and Supreme Court Justices.
