What are six features that can be used to name muscles? Location, size, shape, direction of fibers, number of origins, and its action.
Define posture. What is its importance to the body as a whole. Posture is the body's natural alignment response to gravity, regardless of position. It ensures bone, and joint alignment, reduces strain, enhances breathing, aids in digestion, and decreases injury risk.
What are the classifications of neurons according to structural and functional characteristics? Structural: Multipolar neurons, bipolar neurons, unipolar neurons, pseudounipolar neurons, anaxonic neurons. Functional: Sensory neurons (Afferent), motor neurons (efferent), interneurons.
What are the 6 major divisions of the brain? Cerebrum, cerebellum, brainstem, hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and amygdala.
What are the locations of the four major pairs of plexuses? Cervical plexus in the neck, brachial plexus in the chest and shoulder, lumbar plexus in the lower back, and the sacral plexus in the pelvis.
How are different hormones primarily classified? Three primary groups; steroid hormones derived from cholesterol testosterone, estrogen, cortisol. Amine hormones; modified single amino acids epinephrine, norepinephrine, melatonin, T3, T4. Peptide hormones; chains of amino acids oxytocin, vasopressin.
What types of cells are found in the pancreatic islets? What hormones do they produce? Alpha cells: glucagon, Beta cells: insulin, amylin, Delta cells: somatostatin, PP (F) cells: pancreatic polypeptide, Epsilon cells: ghrelin.
What is the structure of platelets? Anucleated, disc-shaped cell fragments with a plasma membrane, cytoskeleton, and internal granules.
List mechanical and chemical barriers of defense of the body in regard to immunity. Mechanical: Skin, mucous membranes, cilia, flushing action, shedding. Chemical: Enzymes, stomach acid (hydrochloric acid), antimicrobial proteins, sebum.
What are the organs of the respiratory system? Nose, nasal cavity, oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli, lungs, diaphragm.
