What are the functions of the neurons and glial cells in the nervous system? Neurons transmit signals and glial cells support neurons
How does the myelinated axon work? Myelin speeds up signal transmission
What are the main purposes of the CNS and PNS? CNS: Processes information PNS: Communication
What does the autonomic nervous system do? Controls autonomic body functions
How do our censes work in general? Convert stimuli into electrical signals
What is the difference between the endocrine and nervous system? The nervous system is fast and the endocrine system is slow and hormonal
What happens during the cardiac cycle? Heart fills, contracts, and pumps blood
What are the parts of blood and what do they do? Blood plasma and formed elements. RBC's: oxygen transport. WBC's immunity. Platelets: clotting
What does the lymphatic system do? Fluid balance and immune function
What is the difference between innate and adaptive immunity? Innate: quick and general. Adaptive: specific and learns.
