Neuro Anatomy Questions

QuestionAnswer
What is the integrative function of the nervous system? It analyzes sensory information, stores information, makes a decision.
What are the three neuron catergories? Multipolar, pseudounipolar, and bipolar.
Are neurotransmitters excitatory or inhibitory? They can be either and vary based on receptor type.
What is the state of a plasma membrane at rest? It is polarized, meaning is more negative internally.
How do local anesthetics work? They block voltage-gated Na+ channels to prevent depolarization, providing temporary numbness and muscle weakness.
What are the three main aspects of an action potential? All-or-None, irreversible, and self-propagating.
What are the two factors that affect signal conduction speed? Myelination- with myelination is faster; fiber diameter- larger fibers are faster
Is nerve regeneration possible? Only in the PNS if the soma is intacted. Can take up two years.
