Sagittal plane Vertical plane that divides the human body into left and right halves
Coronal plane a vertical plan that divides the body into front (anterior) and back (posterior) sections
Transverse plane a horizontal plane that divides the body into superior (upper) and inferior (lower) parts
Catabolism Reactions that break down compound into simpler ones to release energy
Anabolism Reactions that combine simple molecules to form complex ones
Nerve Cell Conduct signals to the nervous system
Nucleus Central structure in a eukaryotic cell
Mitochondria Organelles within cells responsible for generating most of the cell's energy through cellular respiration
Eccrine Glands Most numerous, small and distributed over the entire body except for a few areas
Sebaceous Glands Secrete sebum, an oily substance that keeps hair and skin soft and prevents water loss
Diaphysis Main shaft of long bone, cylinder shape, and thick compact bone provide strong support w/o added weight
