ventral cavity Anterior surface of torso; divided by diaphragm muscle into upper thoracic cavity and abdominopelvic cavity
dorsal cavity back part of the body; two subdivisions are cranial and spinal
muscular system Allows manipulation of the environment, locomotion, and facial expression. Maintains posture & produces heat.
integumentary system Provides a barrier, aids in thermoregulation, protects against UV light, allows UV light to convert cholesterol into vitamin D, and aids in the sensation of touch are all functions of this system.
Central nervous system Consists of the brain and spinal cord
peripheral nervous system Cranial and spinal nerves
osteoblasts Bone forming cells
Osteoclasts Bone dissolving cells
axial skeleton Portion of the skeletal system that consists of the skull, rib cage, and vertebral column
appendicular skeleton Bones of the limbs and limb girdles that are attached to the axial skeleton
