What role does the hypothalamus play in maintaining homeostasis? It acts as the control center, detecting changes and triggering responses like hormone release or temperature regulation.
In metabolism, how do catabolism and anabolism differ? Catabolism breaks down molecules to release energy, while anabolism builds molecules using energy.
During surgery, a doctor makes an incision on the anterior side of the thigh. Which surface of the thigh is being cut, and what is the opposite directional term? The front surface is being cut; the opposite term is posterior.
Which abdominal region is located directly inferior to the epigastric region? The umbilical region.
What is the role of inflammation in tissue repair? It brings immune cells and nutrients to the site, removes debris, and sets the stage for healing.
What type of epithelial tissue lines most of the digestive tract, and what is its function? Simple columnar epithelium; it absorbs nutrients and secretes mucus/enzymes.
What pigment gives skin its color, and what cell produces it? Melanin, produced by melanocytes.
How does the skin help regulate body temperature when it’s hot? Sweat glands release sweat and dermal blood vessels dilate to release heat.

Which axial muscle is primarily responsible for elevating the ribs during inhalation? The diaphragm
