Connective Tissue
Ways to describe and identify connective tissue under a microscope.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Collagen Fibres | Linked protein fibres that provide tensile strength |
| Reticular Fibres | Thinner collagen fibres that provides framework to cells and keep them in place |
| Elastic Fibres | Fibres that can stretch and spring back when the effecting force is removed. |
| Loose | Connective tissue with more open space between cells and fibres. |
| Areolar | Connective tissue with extracellular gel-like matrix with some cells and fibres. |
| Reticular | Connective tissue with reticular fibres that provides framework for blood forming cells. |
| Adipose | Connective tissue that's almost entirely cells. |
| Dense | Connective tissue where fibres and cells are more condensed with less room between them. |
| Regular Dense | Connective tissue that's mostly collagen fibres in the same direction. |
| Irregular Dense | Connective tissue where collagen fibres go in all directions. |
| Dense Elastic | Connective tissue that is highly elastic due to extracellular matrix with a lot of elastic fibres. |
