Our Essay Parts Study Stack

| Introduction | Definition: The first paragraph that introduces the topic and gets the reader interested. |
| Hook | Definition: The very first sentence that grabs the reader’s attention. Can be a question, a startling stat, or a vivid description |
| Opinion / Thesis Statement | Definition: A sentence that clearly tells the reader your opinion or main idea in an essay |
| Body Paragraph | Definition: The middle part of an essay that gives reasons, details, and evidence to support the thesis. |
| Transitions | Definition: Words or phrases that connect ideas smoothly. Examples: First, Next, Also, Because, As a result, In addition to, Finally. |
| Evidence | Definition: Facts, examples, or quotes that prove your idea is true. |
| Support | Definition: Extra details from your own mind, analysis of facts, or explanations that make your evidence stronger. |
| Analysis | Definition: Explaining how your evidence connects to your thesis. Example: “Because walking dogs helps people stay healthy, dogs improve their owners’ lives.” |
| Conclusion | Definition: The last paragraph that wraps up your essay and reminds the reader of your main idea. Restates your reasons as well. Example: “In conclusion, dogs make the best pets because they keep us active and happy.” |
