Pectoral Girdle Articulates with the trunk and supports the upper limbs - clavicles and scapulae - allows muscles to move arms - shoulder joint has a shallow cavity
Clavicle S-shaped bone - extends between manubrium of the sternum and acromion of scapula.
Sternal End Articulates medially with the manubrium of sternum - forms sternoclavicular joint
Acromial End articulates laterally with the acromion of the scapula - broad, flattened - forms acromioclavicular joint
Conoid Tubercle ligament attachment sites - only in the clavicle, inferior surface, near acromial end - small round projection
Costal Tuberosity - Large, rough projection - ligament attachment site - Near sternal end
Scapula Shaped like a broad flat triangle - 3 boarders, 3 angles
Glenoid Cavity Articulates with the head of the humerus
Superglenoid tubercle superior edge of glenoid cavity - attachment sites for the muscles that position the shoulder and arm
infraglenoid tubercle Inferior edge of glenoid cavity - Attachment site for muscles
Spine of scapula Posterior bony ridge
Supraspinous fossa Trench above the spine of scapula
Infraspinous fossa Trench below the spine of scapula
Acromion of scapula Lateral side, larger, flattened posterior process - bony tip of shoulder
Coracoid Process Anterior smaller projection of the shoulder
Subscapular fossa Anterior surface of - broad, smooth surface of scapula, slightly concave
