Anatomy

TermDefinition
Myocardium The thick middle layer of the heart wall made up of cardiac muscle tissue; responsible for contracting and pumping blood.
Convergent Arrangement of muscle fascicles tends to be triangular in shape. The Pectoralis major is an example of a muscle with this type of muscle fascicle arrangement.
Unipennate A muscle with fascicles that insert into only one side of the tendon
Calcaneal tendon Common tendon of the gastrocnemius and soleu
