TermDefinition
Homeostasis The body’s ability to maintain a stable internal environment.
Sympathetic Nervous System Part of the autonomic nervous system that triggers “fight or flight” response.
Parasympathetic Nervous System The part of the autonomic nervous system responsible for “rest and digest.”
Anatomical Position The body standing upright, facing forward, arms at the side, palms facing forward.
Mitochondria The powerhouse of the cell; produces ATP.
Neuron A specialized cell that transmits nerve impulses
Negative Feedback Loop A process that returns a condition to its normal state (e.g., blood sugar control).
Action Potential A rapid rise and fall in membrane potential that transmits signals along neurons.
Skeletal Muscle Voluntary muscle attached to bones for movement.
Diffusion Movement of molecules from an area of high concentration to low concentration.
