Human Anatomy Week 1- 6

TermDefinition
What is Anatomy? The study of the body structure.
What is physiology The study of the body functions.
Anterior Refers to the front or direction toward the front of the body.
Posterior Refers to the back or direction toward the back of the body.
Heart The organ that pumps blood throughout the body, supplying oxygen and nutrients while removing waste products
Lungs The organs responsible for breathing and gas exchange, taking in oxygen and expelling carbon dioxide
Bladder The organ that stores urine before it is expelled from the body
Bones Hard structures that form the skeleton, providing support, protection, and enabling movement
Homeostasis Process by which the body maintains a stable internal environment,.
Synapse The junction between two neurons where communication occurs via neurotransmitters.
Neuron A nerve cell; the basic structural and functional unit of the nervous system.
Myelin sheath The insulating covering around axons that increases the speed of nerve impulse conduction.
