What is the myelin sheath? A fatty layer that insulates axons and speeds up nerve impulse transmission.
Define reflex arc. The simplest nerve pathway responsible for reflexes.
Define cochlea A spiral-shaped organ in the inner ear responsible for hearing
: What are olfactory receptors? Sensory cells in the nasal cavity that detect smells.
Define hematopoiesis. The formation of blood cells, mainly in red bone marrow.
What is sarcomere? The contractile unit of a muscle fiber.
Define neuromuscular junction. The site where a motor neuron communicates with a muscle fiber.
What is acetylcholine? A neurotransmitter involved in muscle contraction.
What is a neuron? A nerve cell that transmits electrical impulses.
Define synapse. The junction between two neurons or a neuron and a muscle.
What is a synovial joint? A freely movable joint with a fluid-filled cavity.
What is a buffer? A substance that helps maintain a stable pH in a solution.
