Human Anatomy

This flashcard set covers key human anatomy concepts from Weeks 1 to 5.

TermDefinition
Anatomy The study of the structure and shape of the body and its parts.
Cell The basic structural and functional unit of life.
Anatomical Position The standard body position used as a reference in anatomy, where the body is upright, facing forward, with arms at the sides and palms facing forward.
Epithelial tissues Tissue that lines body surfaces and cavities and serves as a protective barrier.
Sagittal Plane The anatomical plane that divides the body into left and right sections.
Homeostasis This is the condition of equilibrium (balance) in the body's internal environment.
Metabolism This is the sum of all chemical processes that occur in the body.
Superior (Cranial) A directional term meaning “toward the head or upper part of a structure.”
Humerus The bone of the upper arm between the shoulder and the elbow.
Vertebrae The series of small bones forming the backbone, divided into cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions.
